Perception

It seems I'm growing faster than I realize.  I've recently found myself trying to fit in places that I once could... but in the past few weeks have outgrown!  For those of you who have not seen Scott's drum room... it is not easily navigated regardless of the situation.  It's kind of funny now, though... because when I enter the drum haven (which if you recall now also holds my computer desk) I either knock stuff over or just flat out don't fit where I'm trying to go!  I guess my mind hasn't realized yet how much bigger my tummy has gotten!

Can you win the lottery if you never buy a ticket?

Strange irony... as I have more and more clothes (since I now have maternity clothes too) I need more and more closet space- and as I prepare for the baby I have less and less closet space!

The room that is slowly becoming the nursery was once my 'extra' room.  When I first moved in, Scott and I both had one of those... mine was for a computer, the cats, and my clothes!  Scott's was for his computer and his drums.  Mine is now gone... as are the cats (well... one is gone and one is outside).  My computer is going to share the drum room but my clothes... well there is the problem!

The solution I came up with was to pack up all of my non-maternity clothes... since I will clearly not be wearing them anytime soon.  I figure I'll just switch them out for the maternity clothes once Sam/Kaleb gets here.  As I was boxing them up tonight, however, I've realized something...  I may just have to toss the pre-pregnancy clothes and buy all new ones.  I'm assuming, of course, that Scott and I win the lottery.

As I packed up my clothes, I realized that they are way too tiny for me to ever fit in again.  Ironically, my clothes kept telling me that they are indeed large... and in many cases X-large.  They just look particularly tiny compared to the mu-mu's I've been donning the past few months.

So the hope is this... in the event that my plans surrounding the lottery are in fact a pipe dream... that I can either sqeeze back into those pre-pregnancy 'tiny' X-large tops OR that baby doll T's come back in style and I can just keep wearing the comfy strech pants with the mu-mus!  Can you wear shirts with storks on them when you're not pregnant and get away with it?  It's a thought.

Lions and Tigers and Bears

Monday marks 25 weeks pregnant... and as I've said a million times before, time is flying!  Luckily time flying means schools is almost out too... just a few more weeks.  It'll be nice to start working on the nursery.  I've been putting it off since I'm about to be out for the summer, but its about that time!  It's amazing how much there is to do... and how little I know about it all!

We (and by we, I mean "I") picked out a jungle themed nursery.  So far we have a crib, bedding, and... well that's about it.  Clearly, we still have a long way to go!  This is what the crib and bedding looks like:

I'm going to paint the walls tan... and I'm trying to convince Scott to paint a mural!  I think it would be cute, but I'm still working on the getting him to agree to it part!  If all goes well... by the time little Sam/Kaleb gets here... we'll have a jungle in the house!

And then they were 3...

After MUCH deliberation, Scott and I have narrowed the name bank down to 3 options!  Now I know this doesn't sound like much of an accomplishment... but considering we started with all the names in the world and Scott and I are two of the most indecisive people in the world... we're actually doing pretty well!  The options are (in no particular order):

1- Kenneth Samuel Griffin
2- Kaleb Scott Griffin
3- Samuel Scott Griffin

Scott, along with his dad/brother/niece all share the initials KSG- Kenneth Scott, Kenneth Scott II, Kevin Shawn, Kailey Samantha... anyway the point of this diatribe is that we are considering continuing the tradition.  That would leave us with option 1 or 2.  He would either be Sam or Kaleb.  I sort of like option 3 as well... as it would make the name we call him be his first name, Sam.

Either way... we will have a Kaleb or a Sam before too much longer!  Just over 15 weeks now... hopefully we'll eliminate 2 of these before that time gets here!  Wish us luck... and feel free to share your favorite!  I enjoy reading your comments...

What's in a name?

Scott and I went to Cary today to run a few errands and came across the cutest thing!  This tiny little baby drum-set!  Then we went up to Raleigh (to the superior drum store, if you ask Scott) and they had tiny little electric guitars!  I figure if we play our cards right, we can have a 1 man band!  Plus, buying a drum-set for a tiny kid is MUCH cheaper than buying one for a grown Griffin... thank goodness!

While out we also picked up a book of baby names.  I am continually amazed at what people will actually name their children.  This book claims 100,000+ names... but I honestly believe it may only have 100+ that I would actually concider desrving of the title "name".  I want a book that let's me remove names by topic... for example... remove all names from this book that:  are famous celebrity names (Apple), are names of muppets (Kermit), are items of clothing (Brazier), or are names of famous dictators (Vladamir, Barak, etc).  I'm serious... these are actually suggestions people feel are legitimate names.  YUCK!

Tomorrow marks 24 weeks... so we still have 16 weeks to decide!  Hopefully once I take a black sharpee to the book deleting names I refuse to concider, we can find something suitable for our little musical protige in the making!

It's another boy!

Ashley and Aron are having a boy too!  They just found out today... I figure Kailey really will be spoiled now, being the only girl.  She's excited about that!

Our appointment went well too.  We are moving right along as scheduled.  23 weeks down, just under 17 to go!  I have one more monthly appointment and then we go to bi-monthly.  Time is flying... before we know it we'll be visiting the OB every week and then have a baby!

The best news of course, is that when I was scheduling my appointment fore next moth I realized that it will be after school is out for the year!  Less than a month until summer :)  That's close to the most exciting news of the day!

Off to church, but I'll be back later with some new pictures!

hmm the things I do to make my wife happy...

So this is my first post as papa-san on the old blogspot device....

Despite what Sarah thinks I actually am discerning name choices in my noggin, but its a tough aspect to make the first choice of many that will reflect on "Boy" for the rest of his life. All the good names such as Boy, Gau, Uagh!!, Infantron, Nicodemus, and such will never stand the wrath of wife or the test of time as by6 16 or 17 Ifantron would probably bring a little ridicule from peers (clearly no longer an infant). Optimus Prime although an early nickname also means much less thanks to Michael Bay's new take on a classic franchise. Gregory House Griffin while ensuring a quick and sharp wit and a possibly prosperous medical career could inadvertantly curse him with the pain killer addiction like our razored tongued diagnostician friend.

Oh the pitfalls of attempting an endeavor such as this. The two parents in the world who have ultimate difficulty deciding where to go out and eat tasked with the branding of a name that will stand the test of time and ensure class and status just by the mere mention of it!

Hmm to strike fear how about something from teh animal kingdom.....Wolverine would be nice if not for being ruined thanks to the new Hugh Jackman flex-fest....Great White would also strike fear, but alas I would have to put Shark in there as well lest I be accused of being racist......Python, Anaconda, and Cobra would probably also send the wrong message, with folks projecting the adult film industry on my heir.....Thunder,  Lightning....Storm?? Rain? Ill continue to think.  Im being called to bed.

Spencer

I guess Mother's Day started a whole new phase of parenting for me.  So far I haven't had to give up much because of the pregnancy.  I don't smoke, drink, do drugs... so it's not like I've had an addiction to overcome.  I don't generally carry around heavy objects or participate in strenuous exersize (or lets face it, any kind of exersize).  So other than my pre-pregnacy clothes it hasn't been that much of a sacrifice for the cause.  I got a taste of what I'm sure is only the the begining of many more parental sacrifices this evening though.

I have (had) 2 cats which have been with me for several years... and they are my babies.  To make room for the real baby, though, the cats had to be moved out.  Italics has taken a love for the great outdoors... so he wasn't too bad.  He has already spent several nights outdoors and is pretty happy.  We haven't kicked him out completely yet... but hopefully that will go well.  Spencer, on the other hand, is a big baby and is terrified of being outside.  So my sister offered to take him home to stay with her.

Bekah came to pick him up this evening so he could go spend some time with her... the plan being that if all goes well and he gets along with her cat that he would stay there.  Needless to say I cried... between my kitty leaving and the preganacy hormones I feel like I've actually given my child up.

Scott of course just thinks I'm crazy and doesn't understand.  I know it's for the best and it's the right thing to do... but I miss my kitty.  Now I'm down to one (rather dumb) cat... let's hope he learns that the road is really not the best place to nap.

Growing

I guess it is becoming obvious that Scott and I are expecting a little one now.  People that I don't know are begining to ask if we're pregnant!  Twice today I had people make a comment about it. It's funny though, because people that I do know are more careful about asking... as if not to offend just in case they're wrong.  I guess I can't blame them though... I'd rather them not ask when I am pregnant that to ask when I'm not.

Obsession

I am writing today on behalf of Scott and I.  Baby Griffin is on the way (that was Scott's contribution)... he's actually over half way right now.  We are 22 and a half weeks... and preparing for another doctors office visit.

We go back to the Doctor's office Wednesday!  I'm hoping that the doctor finally says that I am consuming enough calcium.  Scott has been really good to go with me to all of my office visits... which has been wonderful.  Unfortunatley for me (although good for the baby, I guess) the part that rings the loudest in his ears is "SARAH... YOU' RE NOT DRINKING ENOUGH MILK".  I, of course, would much rather drink soda than milk... for that matter I'd rather drink juice, water, or just go thirsty.  So we've found a compromise.  I'm drinking chocolate milk... since chocolate is always better!  And I'm taking a calcium supliment at night.  If they dont' say I have enough calcium this time, I fear what Scott's next move will be!

So you will truly understand Scott's obcession with my milk intake... here is a little story for you: Scott comes home from work a few days ago with his hands behind his back and a cute little grin on his face.  The first thing out of his mouth is "I brought you a present!".  I, of course, am excited... always excited to hear about suprise presents.  As I eagerly jump of the couch (my lazy post) he reveals his prize to be... Caltrate... chewable calcium supplements.  Thank you baby.  It's just what I've always wanted!  How ever did you know?  In his defense, however, I will say that he bought the yummy chewable fruity kind.  Way better than the 5 glasses of milk I am supposed to be consuming each day.  Yuck.

More to come after Wednesday... which I am excited to say should bring news not only from baby Griffin... but also from baby Pierce and whether it'll be a he or a she!

The Griffins... but let's face it, mainly Sarah

Thumper

Scott finally felt the baby move!  :)  Exciting.  Now he has changed the baby's name to Thumper, because he says it feels like the baby is trying to thump him from the inside!  Tomorrow makes 22 weeks!  We are moving right along.  Now we just have to get to work on the nursury!

In other exciting news: Ashley, Aron, and their little one are not too far behind us... and they get to find out on the 13th if they are having a boy or a girl!  I'll share once I hear the news!  2 new baby Griffins (well... one Pierce, but close enough!)

Big Thanks!

Buying baby stuff is fun... but expensive!  Thank you so much for all of the donations... especially Jenny and all of the maternity clothes!  You guys have all been great.  I'll be sure to pass along the good fortune to others in need one day!
